STS-121: Launch date announced Spaceflight Now Digital Video Posted: June 17, 2006
NASA leaders have affirmed Saturday, July 1 as the official launch date for space shuttle Discovery's test flight to the International Space Station. The decision came despite the agency's safety officer and chief engineer voting 'no go' due to continuing concerns about the design of the fuel tank's ice-frost foam ramps. NASA Administrator Mike Griffin, Associate Administrator for Space Operations Bill Gerstenmaier, Shuttle Program Manager Wayne Hale and launch director Mike Leinbach held this news conference at the conclusion of the Flight Readiness Review.
